I’ve been reflecting lately on the importance for every Christian of having what is often called, “a daily quiet time with God.”
Think about what that phrase really says.
Daily – making time with your Heavenly Father such a priority that not one day goes by without time set aside for communion with Him.
Quiet – that means the television is turned off.The kids are asleep or otherwise occupied.Nothing is competing for your attention. You are ready to hear from heaven.
Time – praying while driving doesn’t count.Time spent in church doesn’t count. This is at least fifteen minutes taken from your busy schedule and devoted to fellowship with your God – just you and Him.
With God – how much success do you suppose you’d have getting a fifteen minute appointment with President Bush this week?Do you realize the God of the Universe is ready to spend as much one on one time with you as you would care to spend with Him?When you pray, you converse with God.When you read His Word, you listen to Him speak. What a great privilege, and yet sadly, an underutilized one.
My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken. Psalm 62:1-2
Try this prayer: “Perspective, Lord, is what I need. Life is demanding and I need to reminded that it is momentary. What I need is time away with You to refresh my spirit and renew my heart. I’m so glad that You know my need for You and birth in me a desire to be with You. Thank You, Lord. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!”
