A Black President
I did not vote for Barak Hussein Obama for a hundred and one reasons. His being black is not one of them.

I heard Carl Rove use a term on television the other night that I had never heard before: “post-race.” He used it to describe younger generations of Americans who simply do not think in racial terms. In other words, they would no more refuse to vote for a man because he’s black than they would because he prefers Coke to Pepsi.

That’s where I am.

When you consider that a generation ago, blacks could not ride the front section of buses, eat in some restaurants, drink at some water fountains, attend certain schools, etc.; and that two generations ago they couldn’t legally vote; and that three generations ago blacks were property, it makes me proud that our country elected a black man as president.

I’m just grieved that they chose the WRONG black man to be president.

I am happy to have a black president for another reason. I don’t think there is any doubt that SOME black folks in this country blame every problem they have or every will have on racism – real or imagined. I hope that foolishness will finally be silenced.
And while I’m on the subject…

"Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities," wrote the apostle Paul. "For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God" (Romans 13:1).

Peter gave his readers the same instruction: "Therefore submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake, whether to the king as supreme, or to governors ..." (1 Peter 2:13-14). And verse 17 of that chapter clearly commands us to “honor the king" or chief ruler (verse 17).

Paul echoes Peter's instruction to Titus: "Remind them to be subject to rulers and authorities, to obey, to be ready to every good work, to speak evil of no one ..." (Titus 3:1-2). Elsewhere Paul exhorts us pray "for kings and all who are in authority" (1 Timothy 2:1-2).

I’ve heard some say that because Obama does not honor God they will not honor him as president. Shame on you! Are you ignorant of Scripture or simply exempt from obeying it?

“But Obama…”

Do you not realize that when the Spirit of God gave the instructions through Paul and Peter to pray for, honor, and not to speak evil of our rulers the wicked, pagan, Christian-killing Roman emperors were in power?

I told our church last night that most if not all of us are deeply disappointed in the outcome of the election, but that we are now bound by Scripture to pray for and honor our president-elect. I will not stop preaching against homosexuality, abortion, and everything else that dishonors God. But I can do so without showing blatant dishonor to our next president.

Pray that God will change his heart, save his soul, give him wisdom to lead, and protect our country from wickedness.
