Not Everybody Thinks It's Good News
I had a feeling God was going to do something special with our Good News Club at McBride School, but when the devil started fighting, I knew God was going to do something special. It started with a call objecting to our Good News Club meeting in the public school building. After repeating several times to the caller that I would not be drawn into a debate on constitutional law and the separation of church and state, I offered to send him a copy of the Supreme Court’s ruling (Good News Club vs. Milford Central School) guaranteeing our right as citizens to hold Bible classes in the public school building.

We’ve also had reports of teachers in other schools attempting to sabotage efforts by refusing to pass out fliers and permission slips to students, etc. Imagine a teacher throwing the promotional materials in the garbage in an attempt to keep students from hearing about Jesus!

So, Tuesday came and we launched our first Good News Club at McBride School. It took awhile for the reality of it all to sink in – here we were in a public school classroom with public school students teaching them Bible songs and memory verses and missionary stories and Bible lessons just like we do in our Sunday school classes at church. And when we asked who would like to receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, four boys and girls raised their hands!

Already we’re setting our sights on other schools in the area, including the new Wilson Creek school just west of the church on Weaver Road and the yet-to-be-built school right across the street from the church to the north. But those Good News Clubs are going to need men and women to staff them. Please think and pray about your role in our Good News Club ministry, taking the gospel of Jesus Christ into the public schools around our church.

Thank you, McBride School, for your help and cooperation!  We're honored to be your Springfield Public Schools Community Partner for Education.
