Muskens thinks it could take another 100 years, but eventually the name Allah will be used by Christian churches, promoting rapprochement between the two religions, he said, according to Radio Netherlands.

A Muslim spokesman, for Amsterdam's union of Moroccan mosques, said Muslims had not asked for such a gesture from Christians, the AP reported.

Come to think of it, neither has God.

He has already revealed His name in the Bible – a name considered so holy and sacred by devout Jewish scribes, they did not dare even write the entire name as they made handwritten copies of the Old Testament, choosing instead to omit the vowels. In fact, the Jewish people would never even pronounce God’s name out of respect. Only the Jewish high priest, on the Day of Atonement, would dare utter the word. And then, only once a year.

God’s name, as revealed in His Word, is “YHWH.”

Modern scholars, attempting to guess at the missing vowels, have settled on YAHWEH as the most likely spelling and pronunciation of God’s name. This name was translated as “Jehovah” in the American Standard Version of 1901, and is simply translated as “the LORD” (all caps) in most other Bible translations.

I guess I said all of that to say this. How far we’ve come with regard to YAHWEH’s name, that we now have a Roman Catholic leader suggesting that “God doesn't mind what he is called.”

And as for appeasing radical Muslims…
