Brother Greg Spilman is heading up a new gathering of golfers from Graceway and beyond. The concept is to play 18 holes, playing your own ball the entire time. The great equalizer is the handicap system. Basically, your average score is used to determine your handicap. So, if you normally shoot 18 over par your handicap is 18 or thereabouts. After you have played your round your handicap is subtracted from your score yielding a net score. So, if you shot a 99 and your handicap is 18 your net score is 81. Then, everyone's net scores are compared to determine who won the day.
Our first round was Saturday, May 1st at Rivercut. We had six golfers, one started early and played with non-league members, but we included him anyway!
Here is Greg's recap of the day:
Also we had a close battle in the team games. The day goes as follows:
Players Starting Handicap Net Score New Handicap Place for the Day
Tim 16 72 16 1st
Bobby 23 74 24 T-2nd
Randy 23 74 24 T-2nd
Greg 6 75 8 4th
Paul 10 78 13 5th
Don 25 81 30 6th
For the team games today we had a 1 Low-Net team score. Which means we take the player on the team that has the lowest net score with the handicap. (ie Player with a 9 handicap get a stroke deducted on the 9 toughest holes on the course. A player with 20 handicap would get a stroke on every hole plus on the 2 hardest holes the player would receive another stroke so the toughest 2 holes they get 2 strokes on that hole.).
That score will go against the other teams lowest score with handicap. If your team has the lower score you win the hole and win a point. If your team loses the hole, your team gets 0 points. Same net score by both teams on the hole gets a ½ a point for each team. Bold score below won the hole
In the First 9 hole team match we had Randy, Don, and Tim (Team 1) vs. Paul, Bobby and Greg (Team 2).
Hole Team 1 Net Score per hole Player who scored it Team 2 Net Score per hole Player who scored it
1 3 Randy 3 Bobby
2 3 Tim 3 Paul
3 4 Tim 4 Greg
4 3 Randy 4 Bobby
5 5 Randy 4 Bobby
6 2 Don 4 Greg
7 4 Tim 4 Greg
8 4 Don 3 Paul
9 3 Don 3 Bobby
Team Totals
Team 1 = 4 ½ points Team 2 = 4 ½ points
We mixed up the teams at the turn. And in the Second 9 hole team match we had Randy, Tim, and Greg (Team 1) vs. Paul, Bobby and Don (Team 2). We used the same format of 1 Low-Net team ball.
Hole Team 1 Net Score per hole Player who scored it Team 2 Net Score per hole Player who scored it
1 4 Greg 3 Bobby
2 3 Tim 4 Don
3 4 Greg 4 Bobby
4 3 Tim 4 Bobby
5 3 Randy 4 Paul
6 3 Randy 2 Bobby
7 3 Randy 5 Paul
8 2 Tim 3 Bobby
9 5 Greg 4 Paul
Team Totals
Team 1 = 5 ½ points Team 2 = 3 ½ points
Hope everyone had a good day playing and fellowship. We will try again in a couple of weeks; I believe the consensus was we were heading to Hidden Valley. I will see about setting it up, and I will keep everyone informed as we move forward.
